Márcio Calvet Neves

Márcio was for 21 years a lawyer and tax partner of one of the largest corporate law firms in Brazil, acting as main local external tax consultant for corporate groups such as Universal Music, Brunswick Corporation, Hyatt  Hotels, Philip Morris,  DentsplySirona, Transportadora Brasileira Gasoduto Bolivia-Brasil – TBG, SINAF Seguros,  Valid  SA.,  Frank’s International and M4U. Márcio specializes in the areas of tax consulting and public policy. He also advises clients on mergers and acquisitions.  Brazilian and multinational companies value his unique ability to explain complex issues and policies, making them easily understood and allowing executives to make properly informed decisions.   In addition to partnering with client to determine daily tax strategy, his professional experience includes tax consulting for the most important projects in Brazil, such as, for example, in the largest business to date carried out by a large European business group when acquiring industrial and mining ventures in Brazil for USD $5 billion. He also has extensive experience in structuring greenfield projects.

Márcio is currently a member of the board of the Brazilian Tax Justice Institute. Early in his career, he worked for three years in a global audit firm and was a temporary consultant at the World Bank Group – International Finance Corporation (IFC) – in Washington, D.C.

Márcio holds an LL. M  in Taxation  from Georgetown  University  (USA), where he graduated with distinction, a Master’s degree in Political Science from Fluminense Federal University (UFF), a Master of Public Policy and Management with first class honours average from the University of Melbourne  (Australia) and a graduate degree in Economics and Business Law from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Rio de Janeiro). He has published several articles on public policy and tax law.  He is an advocate of corporate social responsibility, a scholar on the relationship between business and government and believes that the private and public sectors should work together to reduce poverty and inequality. A dynamic and frequent speaker, he has taught graduate classes in international tax law and tax planning and corporate social responsibility at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Ibmec and  UERJ. He has been recommended as a leading lawyer in several publications, such as Chambers & Partners (Global &  Latin  America),The Legal 500 and Análise Advocacia 500.
